Pax by Ploom Description
If you're in the market for the latest and greatest vaporizer, meet the Pax by Ploom. Ploom's Pax is a sleek portable vaporizer that is quickly winning over everyone who comes in contact with it. The Pax is a conduction style vaporizer that fits in the palm of your hand, making it a no-brainer to bring with you on-the-go. To begin using your Pax, simply click in the mouthpiece which causes it to pop out, and click the mouthpiece back in when done. The Pax has a motion sensing shut-off feature that will automatically put it into "sleep mode" when you set it down.
How does the Pax Vaporize?
The Pax heats up in as little as 30 seconds. It can be heated to three different temperatures:
- Low = 370 deg. F (188 C)
- Med = 390 deg. F (199 C)
- Hot = 410 deg. F (210 C)
The temperature can be chosen with just a click of a button. The indicator light displays the battery condition, heating status, and the temperature. The temperatures displays as yellow, orange, or red light for: low, medium, and hot settings, respectively.
Pax Battery Life
Lithium ion rechargeable internal battery charges via included plug-in charging dock and reaches full charge in under two hours. Charge lasts for up to 2 hours of continuous use. Battery is a 2600 mAh capacity. Temperature setting and use will affect the length of charge.
Pax Construction
The Pax's exterior is anodized aluminum (very Apple MacBook-esque) in either Onyx (black), Cobalt (blue), or Amethyst (purple) colors. All plastic components are food safe engineering plastics. It measures just 4 1/8" x 1.3" x 7/8". The vapor pathway is medical grade stainless steel, just like The heating element at the bottom of the unit, also known as the "oven".
Pax Warranty
Ploom, the manufacturer behind the Pax vaporizer, warranties the Pax for 10 full years when purchased through an authorized distributor such as Vape World.

PAX DURABILITY Review by Gamma on 5/17/13
Ease-of-Use Value Quality Pax is a very nice portable vape, but the price is a little steep. I used one for 6 months and I have noticed a few things.
-The heating unit became figiity and I would have to hold the mouth piece down in order for it to turn purple and heat up
-A dense pack gives better results but the chamber is somewhat small and gives it a harder pull
all in all it has held up many uses and hasn't broken -
Great Product Review by Ray on 5/14/13
Ease-of-Use Value Quality Have had my Pax for a month now and I love this thing. The ease of use alone makes this vape a winner and would have a hard time believing another portable would be as easy to use on the go.The draws are very nice and I have found increasing the temp setting while going through an ovenload is the way to go.Have not experienced any mouthpiece issues yet as I have seen some people mention, but a lot of that seems to stem from cleaning which would seem to be the one issue that might prevent someone from buying this if they don't want to clean regularly even though the cleaning is pretty easy and I have been doing about twice a week from daily usage and have not had any issues.Anyone in the market for a portable vape should look at the Pax.

I love it!!!! Review by Khris on 5/12/13
Ease-of-Use Value Quality New to Vapes. After seeing a great review from Bud, at vape critic (there is also a very helpful cleaning video for the Pax on his site)
I was convinced to buy the unit. I honestly didn't know what to expect and don't know what I did before it. I have had my Pax for a month now. I love it!
My experience is this: Easy fill easy clean, no mess, no coughing, no smoke, my house doesn't smell afterwards! (yes OCD) convenient and easy to use, easy to maintain. After a month I am also convinced that the price is worth the quality you receive! I didn't have a problem with the draw either. I felt a little tug but awesome unit! Highly recommend it! Happy Vaping. -

Can't say enough about this thing.... but the CLEANING. Review by Vermonster on 5/11/13
Ease-of-Use Value Quality So, to start this off, I've owned this crazy little thing for about six months or so, and currently use it about 3-5 times.week on average. I've medicated for a while, but not that often because it's so damn harsh on the lungs, but after reading up on my research and having gone through a bit of med school, I felt that vaporizing was a seriously real and healthy alternative, but was also concerned about portability/discretion so I got the pax. This device performs EXACTLY as advertised, and I am very impressed at both the device's performance and the company it comes from. The only qualms I have are about the unit's price (I'm a cheap bastard), and the CLEANING, which I will get to momentarily.
Anyone who owns this product (I have two friends that own one as well), gets to a point where the little 4-pointed star turns orange when you want it to heat -_- As far as I understand it, this is because there is some type of physical blockage that is preventing either the temperature sensor or the sensor that detects the placement of the mouthpiece stem from being activated, as reorienting the pax in different ways causes the unit to heat as normal again (light turns purple, blinks until green and ready for use). Also notable is that thorough cleaning of the unit eliminates this issue COMPLETELY, but a thorough cleaning can be a rather involved process.
When I clean my pax (which I do every 3 or so oven packs), it takes me fifteen minutes, a bottle of isopropyl alcohol, 3 Q-tips, 5 toothpicks, 4 pipecleaners, a paper towel and one of those little dental appliance cleaning wands. I use the Q-tips soaked in alcohol to liberally apply the alcohol to all of the surfaces that are in contact with the vapor or blend, including mouthpiece, oven lid, oven and the tip that interfaces with the mouthpiece stem. Then I use the toothpicks to chip off the little sticky bits of material that inevitably find their way into every crevice of this thing, as well as to sweep the corner of the entire oven rim where material gets trapped. Then I use the dental brush soaked in alcohol to scrub out the mouthpiece (it fits all of the corners really well), as well as the crannies around the oven lid and oven opening) and also to scrub the inner surface of the vapor path that interfaces with the mouthpiece stem. Then I use the pipe cleaners lightly soaked in alcohol to "floss" the vapor path (insert from mouthpiece end, much like the pax manual shows you how). Then I try and soak up all the alcohol with the paper towel and reassemble the pax. Since I just tossed a lot of alcohol into the thing, I run it on red setting empty for about three minutes before reloading (to evaporate as much of the isopropyl alcohol as possible) or else you're gonna inhale vaporized isopropyl alcohol during your next session (not a super healthy proposition).
So, to conclude, this unit is basically everything you want in a portable vaporizer solution, just so long as you're willing to maintain the ever-loving CRAP out of it. Every problem with the unit is solved by a thorough, complete cleaning. If you're in the middle of a session and the thing starts turning orange, a quick fix without cleaning it (something that inevitably you will need to do to avoid problems) is to remove the mouthpiece, LICK IT, reinsert the mouthpiece and push it gently in a few times to lubricate the stem, possibly sloughing off whatever piece of crud is blocking the sensor. I've found this to be a good quick fix to get through a session and kill the orange light, but the only surefire way to make your pax happy is to clean the hell out of it. -
Awesome product!! Review by Troy on 5/10/13
Ease-of-Use Value Quality I HavE Owned And used Many Different Types Of Vaporizers Over The Years, From The Volcano To The Vapir No2. I Have Owned The Pax For About Four Months Now And It Has Worked Flawlessly. Very Very Portable, Easy To Use And Vaps Like A Dream. Cleaning The Pax regularly Is Very Important Especially The Mouth Piece. Ninety Percent Of The Problems I've Read Are Caused From People Not Cleaning Their Pax Like They Should. What Alot Of People Don't Realize When They Get Into vaporizing Is That All Vaporizors Need Regular Cleaning. But Luckly The Pax Is Extremely Easy And Fast To Clean. Way Easier To Clean Than Any Other Portable Vap I've Owned And You Don't Have To Change The Screen Every Month Like Some Other Vaps Out There. Also The Pax Has A Big Oven [redacted] Especially For How The Small It Is. I Have A Fairly High Tolerance And Can Get [redacted] Two Different Times On One [oven] Fully Packed And Loaded. You Defiantly Need A Grinde For Any Type Of Vaporizer, The Finer The [material] Is ground up The Better The Heat Can Penetrate And Release The Vapor. And Also Be Sure To Pack Down Whatever [material] It Is Your Using Fairly Firm. If The [material] Is Too Loosely Packed It May Not Vaporize As Well As It Would If It Were Firmly Packed. Anyways Get The Pax It Is A Very Well Made Quality Device That Delivers What Plooms Says It Will.

After 24 hours Review by Newbie on 4/26/13
Ease-of-Use Value Quality I've had my cobalt pax since yesterday. I love it, wanted black for the "stealth" but I've been walking around with this in my hand and no one knows. I figure if I'm paying so much I want it to look good too and the blue is so sick, although I still want a black too because it blends in with anything it's on. The blue sticks out if it's just laying down.
Anyway I wish I could get more vapor in each hit and a packed oven doesn't last so long. But I do cough on the first few hits so I must be getting enough, I just like having a mouthful of smoke, in this case steam/vapor instead of little bits at a time. But this thing s really cool, haven't vaped in years so I def notice the difference in [redacted]. I do wish an oven lasted longer though. -
Newbie Review by Jay on 4/25/13
Ease-of-Use Value Quality Ordered my pax yesterday received it this morning. So far so good, haven't vaped in years so I'm getting back to it. It sounds like something is loose if I shake it, like a zippo lighter like flint moving. Is that normal? Waiting for the head shop to open to get a better grinder. I'll post again to give a better review.

Website not clear on cut off time for shipping products out Review by Megan on 4/18/13
Ease-of-Use Value Quality I ordered my Pax yesterday and paid the 22 extra dollars in order to get it the next day. Well it's the next day and my order is still processing. I called Vape World this morning and spoke to someone very quickly. They told me orders made after 2:30 would be shipped the next time and will arrive one business day from when it was shipped. I wish Vape World would have been more clear about the cut off time when ordering a product. Usually websites have that information stated when checking out & Vape World did not. Hopefully my Pax is worth this wait and money.

Some of these reviewers should check again... Review by Neilson on 3/30/13
Quality Ease-of-Use Value I've read quite a few bad reviews about this product, which makes me believe that some people should try again. First off I've owned a volcano, and this is like its little midget brother. Intuitive and perfect for what it was designed for.
After owning for about a year now, I've experienced it's hiccups a few times. Pax's biggest flaw is that the mouthpiece becomes unreadable from built up residue. Don't mistake this for bad quality. Flawed only by necessity of design for such an intuitive product. Ploom clearly states on their site to clean the Pax regularly. You can buy cleaning packs for $10 a pop, which will clean decent build up 3 times per pack. My first encounter with the mouthpiece was solved by a quick 5 star exchange between me and the representative:
(Actual conversation homies. Legit. Remove his name and my last name.)
ME
My pax has a minor setback. I love it, but if not in the exact correct position, the mouthpiece is misinterpreted as disconnected, displaying the temperature setting, which seems to keep it from heating up correctly. I don't think it's even been a year. Maybe I've had it for six months or a little more. I was looking to get it repaired.
Thank you for our time.
Sincerely,
Neil

Hi Neil,
Thank you for reaching out to the team here at Ploom!

PLOOM
Hi Neil,
Thank you for following up. We’ll place a new mouthpiece in the mail today. We are including with your mouthpiece two packets of mouthpiece lubricant. This lubricant is not intended to replace cleaning; however, if your Pax mouthpiece action seems to be a bit sticky, and/or if your Pax LED indicator displays the temperature setting when your mouthpiece is in the "on" position, applying this lubricant should resolve the issue.
Apply a small droplet of lubricant into the stem of the metal tube and another droplet on the outside of the tube. Use the packet to smudge it all around the tube and under the sliding ring. Re-insert your mouthpiece into Pax and press the mouthpiece in and out a few times to distribute the lubricant. You don't need a large amount - a little goes a long way! Enjoy your smooth Pax and don't hesitate to reach out with any questions or further needs we can assist with!

If you have any other questions, feel free to reach out.
Best regards,
**** at Ploom
(Then I got a support team "we're you satisfied?" email)
Now that is customer service. Got it that Monday first class. Now I have the cleaning down and if my mouthpiece reads incorrectly, I just clean the shit out of it, add some lube and smash the mouthpiece on/off a few times. Don't physically beat the thing, but its spring action can handle quick movements. Works fine after.
As for complaints about the draw being EXTREMELY hard, fill a little less homie. It's not a Volcano. To keep the temp where it should be, you can't have heavy open airflow. It will literally suck the hot air out of the oven. By portable design, it doesn't have the power like the Volcano at home unit.
Yellow temp is perfect for medical without harsher chemicals from smoke. The medium orange temp is what most like. I prefer the cleaner feeling yellow, while I relax and drink some tea. Takes longer, but I enjoy the action, I guess it's called "plooming" now. The clouds are almost non existant for some, for two reasons; one being correct vaporization is supposed to be finely atomized and also, your medication is not on par with others.
If you vape like you're addicted, the battery will last a day or two on medium orange. My few test results lead to roughly 1 1/2 - 2 hours use time. This was tested with both yellow and orange temps, as well as often/less often usage. My Pax lasts me a week when I'm slow, and a few days when I'm in the mood more. I would recommend a bigger battery though, because well, why the hell not?
You can use your blends for a while, until they turn brown. You'll stop getting vapor and notice a burnt taste. I actually cut back a LOT when I did this. Now I prefer changing sooner for freshness. If you've got the supply, go for it. Oven is a good personal size.
Overall, the Pax by Ploom has little wrong with it. Made with medical grade materials, in an intuitive and uniquely portable design. When the Pax 2 is made, I'm sure it will be held even closer to the volcano. Even now, of all the vaporizers I've owned, this comes second for its purpose to only the Volcano. First in the truly portable category.
Hope this helps! -

it's the Future! Review by G_Freezzy on 3/29/13
Quality Ease-of-Use Value The Pax is a revolutionary portable vaporizer.. Not many vapes out there that can actually match what the Pax accomplishes. Pax offers supreme portability combined with outstanding quality, not to mention the great taste and heavy vapor that this unit provides...
Not sure what this review under me is talking about... the unit is worth every penny. You can buy a shirt for $40.. the Pax is a little more advanced than a shirt.
Buy it, you will love it! Just make sure you know how to properly clean the Pax, call Vape Worlds customer service, they are great! -

waste of money Review by sam on 3/21/13
Quality Ease-of-Use Value This unit does not VAPORIZE but rather BURNS the material. Everyone thinks that since they get vapors the unit is vaporizing. Not true. This unit is EXTREMELY hard to draw through and you get very low quality vapors on the first two settings. You get FAIR vapors on the highest setting but it BURNS the material. This is no different than an e-cigarette which burns and does not vaporize. Where is Storzes and Bickel with a PORTABLE vaporizer? It can't be that hard to make..

Maybe it's great Review by Spyder on 3/20/13
Quality Ease-of-Use Value I bought a Pax and was so stoked I convinced my brother to get one. Each of ours stopped charging 30 days after we got them. Vape World was great at getting the return hassle handled. But it still took 3 weeks and vaping spoils smoking real fast so to be without my Pax sucked! The quality seems first rate. And this thing personifies ease of use. I got an MFLB while I waited for my Pax. These two are worlds apart. It makes the flight box seem cumbersome. Great little box, but, The Pax is space age. Quick, easy, stealthy. We'll see how my replacement holds up.

The absolute best option for on-the-go Review by Cat on 3/20/13
Quality Ease-of-Use Value I love my Pax! Before, my portables were pretty messy for anything other than walking around the house. Now, I can take my Pax to the beach, the park, on a road trip, and I never have to worry about it spilling or breaking. The best part is it produces excellent vapor. Pax is my new favorite travel buddy!

Satisfied Paxer Review by Under 80 on 3/18/13
Quality Ease-of-Use Value Hi guys. I am new to the vaporizing world. My physician told me about vaporizing for my health. It was funny because right after he was telling me about it I was ready a magazine and saw the Pax. It looked really nifty. Kind of like my grandkids iPhones or blueberrys or whatever they are sending messages on these days. I can not keep up with technology.
I must say as someone who is a bit older and out of touch, I found the Pax very easy to use. Yes, I agree the cleaning is a bit high maintenance, but as someone who truly appreciates all the things I have, I have no problem keeping up with the needs of my Pax.
I really enjoy the vapor quality. I like the look of the Pax. I like the side effects too! If you are looking for a pocket sized vaporizer, do not overlook this little gizmo. -

Amazing Vape! Review by Sally on 3/18/13
Quality Ease-of-Use Value I received my Pax a few days ago and I just had to write about it! I absolutely love it. Not only is it so small it fits in every purse I have, but it is by far the easiest to use vaporizer I have ever owned. It has all these cool features and I am really impressed with the party mode. It flashes cool lights, heats up quickly and my battery life lasts a good while. I used to be very conscious of when and where I was lighting up but with my Pax I can get some of my medicine ANYWHERE! It is the greatest invention ever! Thomas Edison would be proud, his light bulb has nothing on my Pax!

Quality Ease-of-Use Value I have owned the Pax for about 8 months and I am very happy with the product. It is extremely [redacted] and the vapor produced is plentiful. Great Unit Review by nugzferdaze on 3/14/13
Value Quality Ease-of-Use The Pax is Dominant over all other portable vapes on the market. Totally portable and very easy to snipe hits in public. Doesn't get hot and throws a silkly smooth vapor cloud of flavor into your lungs. Supercharge [the oven] with some [pollen] on top and this thing with do a 3 person session. Set on medium and use very dry [ingredients] grinded up and you will barely have to clean the pax, maybe once every 6-7 weeks using it everyday. Nothing but love for the Pax

What a rip off!! Broken after perfect use in a mere 2 months.. Review by Whataripoff on 3/11/13
Quality Ease-of-Use Value My boyfriend purchased the Pax Ploom for me for Christmas. I was so excited!
At first it worked perfectly and I loved the ease of use, the [redacted] design, and the color (I have purple). Anyway, after only 1 month of use, during which time, I cleaned it thoroughly and took *excellent* care of the product, it suddenly would no longer charge! It was low on battery one day, and just like I had done several times before, I plugged it in. When the light did not come on which demonstrates that the device is charging, I worried a little. But I thought it must just be really low on battery. I came back a couple hours later.. still dead. And still dead to this day after much time has been devoted to getting it to work again.
After the realization that this thing wasn't going to come back to life, we contacted the customer support team and they assured that with some cleaning it could be fixed very easily. I was skeptical because my Pax was already clean as a whistle. We carefully followed the cleaning intstructions sent to us and sadness decended upon us when it became clear that it was not fixable.
Still, we tried absolutely everything under the sun to get it to charge again, but it would not. Now customer support is telling us the only way to get a replacement is to mail it back. Given the nature of this product, I do not want to send it in the mail, especially now that it has been used.
What we did to try to fix it: Clean it.. Let it sit.. Clean it again.. Let it sit (not on the charger), tried multiple different outlets, tried another mouthpiece (my boyfriend purchased an extra mouth piece because he heard this could be problematic). Watch Youtube videos on the subject, read countless reviews trying to get insight, and etc.
I am very disappointed and feel that other people should know this information.
My boyfriend is now without $250.00 for one month of light use of this product.
Very disappointed... If I could give 0 Stars, I would.

Can't Recommend - Mouthpiece gets stuck Review by Reef on 3/3/13
Quality Ease-of-Use Value I was in love with this thing when I first got it, but now I simply can't recommend it due to the widespread problems of the mouthpiece getting stuck. The vaporizer becomes unusable once this happens - even with very regular cleaning. I have tried the wire cleaners + iso alcohol to no avail. This is a largescale hardware problem that has to be taken care of before I can recommend the Pax.
-
Very great product. I highly recommend. Review by T-royT-roy on 3/2/13
Quality Ease-of-Use Value Well first off to all those reviews of people having all these issues with the pax you either got a defective product (assembled in China not a good choice for a company like Ploom where quality is what their about). I personally think thats the reason why so many people have had problems with their pax. Or you don't know much about vaporizers and all the variables that go along with vaping such as often maintenance, how to draw vapor correctly, grinding up the material of choice to the correct fineness. But anyways back to my review. The Pax is such a small unit, in your hand it feels really solid, not cheap at all. I like how the mouth piece turns the unit on and off. I haven't had any issues with it sticking or not staying down or not coming up after I click it down. I also have not had any problems with it getting hot on the mouth piece or the unit itself. It maybe gets warm on the bottom where the oven is but that's it. The vapor the pax produces is awesome especially for how small the unit is. The taste is good as well. It does have a restrictive air flow when you take a draw, but it does not effect the amount of vaper you get, you just have to get a feel for hitting it. It charges fast only takes one and a half to two hours if fully drained to charge all the way. Overall I'm very happy with the pax and how it preforms.

Still needs tweaking! Review by project914 on 2/27/13
Quality Ease-of-Use Value I like my Pax alot, although because of a few issues, I'm not in love with it. First the mouth piece getting hot is for real people and needs to be fixed. I did figure out though if you put just the right bend in the "screen", you can create a more positive air flow with less resistance. The unit like any does get dirty and needs to be cleaned well and often. I also wish the "oven" were bigger to hold more blends. If this unit cost $99.99 as it most likely should I would be raving about the quality, but at $250, I expect perfection and Pax isn't quite there yet.

Excellent vaporizer but has room for improvement. Review by Dean on 2/26/13
Value Quality Ease-of-Use OK. I've owned quite a few vaporizers. I also own the volcano. The PAX definitely delivers a nice tasting vapor and packs quite a punch! The heat is very consistent. You can simply sit it down and it will go into standby mode. It will also automatically shut off. So no need to worry if you did too much medication and forgot to shut it off. The second night I had my PAX a friend dropped it on the concrete. The mouthpiece and oven lid flew off in different directions. Mouthpiece was never found. The bottom of the unit has a couple of nicks in it, but it still works fine. Lesson learned, be careful who you share your PAX with. The PAX unit is slick and very easy to drop or slide out of a pocket. I had to order another mouthpiece that night. As soon as it arrived, the vape worked just fine. But then I experienced the light temp issue that same day that everybody has been talking about. You pop the mouthpiece up to turn the unit on and the PAX doesn't recognize that the mouthpiece is on the unit. It only displays the current temperature setting. A quick remedy to this is to place your finger nail into the groove of the mouthpiece and slightly pull up. This will engage the latch and allow the unit to heat up. This is a quick fix until you can clean the unit. I found that after cleaning the unit and using the mouthpiece lube, it didn't help at all. I kept having the same problem. I then read instructions from PAX that if you dip the mouthpiece in ISO and then click the mouthpiece in and out of the PAX about 15 times, it will break up any residue. Worked like a charm. I used the lube and again the light kept displaying red. So again, I used ISO and it's fixed. So I'm skipping the mouthpiece lube. Battery life is great. I get about six vaping sessions that are about 10 minutes in length. I also use the high heat setting. Overall, I'm very pleased with the PAX. I think the next PAX model will definitely have improvements with the mouthpiece. I do clean mine thoroughly about every two days. It just takes a minute or two. And besides, with all of the happiness that the PAX delivers, why not take good care of it? Also, I only fill the chamber up and never pack the herb down like recommended. If you just fill the chamber up and take small draws, the vapor clouds are huge. If the mouthpiece is getting hot, it's telling you that you are drawing too hard from the moutpiece. Small light draws work best.

Pretty good, mostly Review by lucidairstream on 2/21/13
Value Quality Ease-of-Use It's beautiful cool to use but to work as it think it should I made some adjustments.
First I cut a real screen using the original as a jig then drilled through the plastic mouth piece to increase the draw thereby turning the device into a true match for the Da Vinci. Except for the bottom falling off. Ploom! Were you on something? These things are simple. RM -
cry babies Review by over 60 on 2/16/13
Value Quality Ease-of-Use I researched along with my friend for several months I even let my friend order the PAX first so I could try it .. this was the real decision maker for me. I have read all the negative reviews, and I don't get it, did you people not contact support ? I have had mine for about 2 months , it gets used every day and multiple times a day. I did have to teach my friends how to use it, and loved watching them all sucking on it till they turned red and then bitching about how hot it got... rookies. I have recommended the PAX to everyone, I've seen the mouth piece stick, and support fixed it, mine so far has NO issues at all....Also if your sharing this with a lot of people this is not the device , this is meant as a portable single user device... I should be getting commission as many of these my friends have bought after using mine... hint hint ??

until you try it you can not appriecate it Review by Rick on 2/16/13
Value Quality Ease-of-Use I think the PAX is a awesome device, and how can you go wrong with a 10 year warranty. I was diagnose with prostrate cancer and under went surgery during my recovery I was diagnose with bladder cancer and could not go thru another surgery , I just couldn't , so I opted for radiation treatment, I was sick beyond anything I ever knew. My friend suggested that I try vaping , which I hadn't done since Vietnam ... well I tried and I immediately felt 100% better but didn't care for the flavor and the harshness in my throat and lungs, then my friend introduced me to the PAX, WOW.. I was hooked , the next day I order one and have been a very happy customer since. I am done with my treatments and have been cancer free since January and I continue to use my PAX on a almost daily base. Thank you for this product, I can not say enough good about this product, I have recommended this product to everyone I know.... again thank you for this product.

Awesome but high maibtenance Review by Brockster on 2/15/13
Value Quality Ease-of-Use This sleek little device is pretty amazing I use it where I want when I want, indoor or outdoor. The health benefits over more traditional methods are amazing and well worth the investment alone.
The only part where the Pax falls on it's face is they're very sensitive to temperature, cleaning materials and how often they're cleaned. I have to clean daily for the best results. After 2 days I have to hold the mouth piece in place with a finger and a day or two after I get diminishing vapor. If it weren't for that it would be literally perfect. -
not very happy after 5 weeks of use Review by lamps on 2/14/13
Quality Ease-of-Use Value this is my first vaporizer. it has been in use for about 5 weeks and has worked as intended until just a few days ago the mouthpiece has either locked in place, very difficult to open, or not locked in place at all.also the led light does not change as quickly as it did in the beginning even after many attempts. also does not heat up as quickly as it did in the beginning after a full charge. it has been cleaned more than instructed. very portable indeed. when it all works worth the money spent . now having second thoughts on recommending it to others.

Honesty Review by Jankus on 2/14/13
Ease-of-Use Value Quality I've had this unit for about 8 weeks and let me tell you it is the bomb. After years, I decide I wanted to incorporate vaping into my regular routine. I did a ton of research then I got the Pax. I thought it was defective because I wasn't "getting enough vapor" and I wasnt used to the drag resistance. I didn't feel like it was working right but I simply didn't know what I was doing. After a few days I realized all my issues were because of me and not because of the Pax. Let me tell you that all who put up a bad review... simply don't know what they're doing. The thing about the Pax is that you have to keep it clean. The people who post about the mouthpiece malfunctioning are simply not cleaning the device. If it's not clean it's not going to function as well as it should. I believe Ploom and others have post cleaning videos on YouTube. I recommend getting the small GUM Dental picks with the green rubber tip and cleaning between the spaces where the mouthpiece stem inserts. Ploom also told me to dip my mouthpiece stem in iso, shake off the excess, and with your device upside down, click the mouthpiece in and out about 12 times and incorporate this into your cleaning. I did what they said and let me tell you I've had zero problems and it's like my Pax is brand new to this day. Btw this is no shill or fake review, I'm a normal user who bought a Pax from vapeworld for $250. Remember, in most cases there is something wrong with you, not your Pax.

Treat it Right Review by Xanadu on 2/11/13
Ease-of-Use Value Quality I too have had the same problems people describe above. First, if you want to make it draw more easily, either put some pin holes in the screen like someone else suggested or press down on a corner of the stash lid to allow more air in. Second, clean it often, but more importantly, you can fix the mouthpiece problems by putting a couple of drops of WD 40 into the well by the temperature switch. I called Pax about this and they said lubricant came with the product (mine didn't) and that they would send me some (which I never received). Sometimes you have to figure these things out for yourself.

Get the Arizer Solo instead. Review by Bungee on 2/10/13
Ease-of-Use Value Quality Honestly speaking... this unit is OK, but much better ones are for sale, especially at THAT price. So far my favorite is the Arizer Solo. When used side by side with the Pax, the Pax can't keep up at all. Puff for puff it delivers more vapor than everything that isn't fan driven. This unit's battery and heater element are not very strong and the Pax keeps going into warming mode trying to reheat. In groups, the Pax can't even come close! And what good is vapor if you keep it all to yourself? The Arizer has a four hour battery and turns off as soon as either you store inhaling through it or the timer shuts it off automatically every 12 minutes so you can save battery or reload, whichever comes first. Enjoy the Arizer, it's 50 times better and more fun, especially if you put it in a paper coffee cup with a cover and make a hole that fits the glass "straw." Take back your dignity and vale anywhere without concerned citizens in your business. :) Have a nice day....for a change. Bungee from California, where the sun shines most days and we have most of everything humans need to exist. Email me any questions about these or any other units. I've owned em all! Prmogulny@aol.com

this thing is exactly what it is MADE IN CHINA Review by wish it was more consistent on 2/8/13
Ease-of-Use Value Quality here we go again techies from san fran pump out a little gizmo fresh outta china that works amazing the 1st time then if you are someone who uses quality blends this thing will gunk up half way through one use. You gotta clean this thing and not with ordinary pipe cleaners dont let other reviews this is for the mature vape user review, you need randy's special pipe cleaners with the metal brizzles to actually go at this thing. and no matter how well you clean the inside you need to maneaver around the outside of the hole where the mouth piece fitting goes but they tell you not to jam pipe cleaners down there and then when i click the mouth piece it thinks im trying to set the temp and doesnt go into heat mode...this thing is a load of crap for the money. it sounds like they got a lot of people with the 10 yr warranty and will most likely say you didnt follow the cleaning instructions...PLEASE just someone else trying to make a buck off people who rely on these devices. By the way the vape hits dont compare to a table top what so ever so keep that in mind when you drop 250

mouth peice and temperture Review by mistersteck on 2/6/13
Ease-of-Use Value Quality Kind of a discomfort on the mouthpiece while using it, and the chamber gets to hot or does not burn longer enough. Would be nice to get an alternate mouthpiece that has more surface to wrap my lips around. Same concept, just a bigger mouth piece.

A good portable vape with some issues Review by arstrig on 2/4/13
Ease-of-Use Value Quality I've been using the Pax for about 4 months now and I really like it. There are a lot of great qualities about the Pax. I think it's biggest strengths are it's sleek design and the quality of the vapor. No other portable vaporizer compares to the Pax in these regards, and in reality these are pretty important qualities when considering a vaporizer. The biggest drawback of the Pax is that it's perhaps a bit over engineered and in my case requires a lot of cleaning to keep it functioning properly. If everything isn't cleaned the mouth piece will get sticky. Since the mouthpiece also controls the switch to turn the unit on, it can be difficult to get it going especially when it's cold outside. As the unit warms up the residue from the vapor becomes less sticky and the mouth piece will work fine. It's not a huge issue but it can be pretty annoying especially since this happens unless the unit is completely clean, even one session will make the mouthpiece sticky at cold temperatures. Another negative is that the unit has to be packed with material in order to work properly. I think it probably takes around .25g+ of material to fill properly. This is fine for multiple heads, but for just myself it can be a bit much and I find that once you start a session it's best to finish. The quality doesn't hold up if you try to return later.
$250 is at the top end of the spectrum for a portable vaporizer, $199 seems more reasonable, but there is a 10-year warranty built in. The warranty tips the scale back to a neutral value rating, but I would be hard pressed to say this vaporizer is a "good deal" considering it does have some serious drawbacks.
All in all though it's a good vape capable of producing the best quality vapor in it's class and honestly probably the best portable vaporizer money can buy at this moment.
Another good option is the magic flight box, which has the reverse qualities of this unit. The MFLB doesn't require much cleanup and only requires a small amount of material to vaporize, but the strength of the vapor, while acceptable, is much weaker. -
WORST customer service Review by wayblaze on 2/4/13
Ease-of-Use Value Quality i ordered this from ploom itself instead of vapeworld (i know i messed up) because i am westcoast and close to SF, i paid for faster shipping because i wanted this before i left for vacation. i placed the order on 2/1/2012 at 9am pst (their website says all orders placed before 2pm pst will ship that day) 4 days later and 4 emails sent to customer service and my pax still has not shipped, and i have not recieved a responce from their customer service. with all the problems this item has regarding the mouthpiece i would think twice before ordering this!

Love Turns to Hate Review by Suizou on 2/1/13
Ease-of-Use Value Quality If it would only work consistently... this is my second PAX under warranty and I'm wondering if I have to get a replacement every three months now. After a few weeks it will stick closed, and cleaning it as directed doesn't help. I'm incredibly disappointed after raving about it to everyone.

My First Vaporizer... Review by Lord Humungus on 1/30/13
Ease-of-Use Value Quality I won't go into detail about the difference between traditional smoking and vaporizing, chances are you already know the difference.
The Pax is, as many have said, the iPod of vaporizers. Small, simple, elegant. I've had a couple of issues (my own fault, it's a bit slippery and I dropped it), but it just required an online chat with Ploom to rectify the problem. It comes with a 10-year warranty, and is perfect for discrete use.
One problem is with it's simplistic design: it's so dang smooth I drop it when I snatch for it to quickly. Maybe it's my clumsy hands, but a rubberized one in the future would prevent those horrible moments when time slows down as I watch my Pax tumble to the floor. -
Amazing 1 person vape Review by Terrell on 1/29/13
Ease-of-Use Value Quality So iv had mine for about a week now & i cant go 4 hrs without it :P
It really does get you medicated and i think it will pay its self off with the 10yr warranty and quality.
POSITIVES: (Stuff you should expect)
1) Great vape clouds & amazing taste
-------------------------------------------------------
2) High quality and sleek look
-------------------------------------------------------
3) very portable and desecrate
NEGATIVES: (mostly social gripes & dont matter if its just you vaping)
1) Not good for alot of people, after each hit it needs like 20sec to reheat for a decent hit
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
2) People dont like the small clouds cause they either hold it in like smoke or dont wait for it to heat up enough
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
3) Everyone seems to think it can heat instantly/vape concentrates like a gpen then complain about it
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
4) Different feeling than normal; normally takes 5min to hit you although its worth it i think
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
5) Because of the heating time & smell of material its not as discrete as i expected. You cant use indoors like a Gpen with wax
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
5) Lastly everyone says "wow $250? i couldv gotten so much material with that" then go on to complain about the price) -
Won't buy again Review by sms on 1/27/13

Great, but.. Review by Spaghetti Western on 1/26/13
Ease-of-Use Value Quality I've been using the Pax for some time now.
The Good: You are a stealthy traveler my friend. The stealth factor is top notch: no burn smell, you can use this handy little device nearly everywhere and be completely incognito. The initial few hits are magic. The feeling is euphoric.
The Bad: The quality of the feeling diminishes as you burn through a chamber. This may not sound like a big deal but imagine your girlfriend or wife getting a little bit uglier every time you kiss her. The first hit is like sex with a porn star, the fifth like a $20 handjob behind the dumpster, and the last hit in the chamber is like kissing your sister.
The Ugly: If you're a spaz like me, beware. If you are prone to dropping phones or lighters, this machine is one bad drop from become a near worthless piece of crap. I dropped it on the pavement and it never worked right again. The weakness is the spring loaded mouthpiece. I have to hold it half down manually to keep it engaged. I've ordered a new mouthpiece, so we'll see if that works. I know this is my fault, but if you're prone to these types of mishaps, it something to consider before you plunk down some serious cash.

Great device and great support Review by Jman on 1/26/13
Ease-of-Use Value Quality I finally caved and bought a pax. Was supper happy with it until the 4th day when it started to act trippy like it would blink green on charger but wouldn't turn on then just stopped turning on at all even on the charge. I email ploom which emailed me back that day I explained my problem they said it sounded defective I sent it in and they sent me a new one which arrived today. Whole process took and 2 weeks or so but I got a new one works great. Zach at ploom was really nice even hooked me up with a color change so if ur having problems with urs email them at ploom.com/support they help me with no issues at all

Awesome Review by D on 1/25/13
Ease-of-Use Value Quality After using two different iolite vaporizer's, this is by far the best one I've used. The delivery is great, and i love that it doesn't make a sound. Very nice packaging, the device is well made and looks cool. I know it's on the pricy side, but its totally worth it when you think about not having to buy butane anymore. I just wish it came with a carrying case since it's pretty expensive. This baby definitely needs to be cleaned about every 10 or so uses. I've had mine for a week now and cleaned it for the first time last night and the difference is night and day.

Head my warning Review by BS on 1/24/13
Value Quality Ease-of-Use Everybody who reviews this product must have used it like once because after the first 3 weeks of use shit hits the fan. In those first 3 weeks though i loved pax so much i didnt want to leave it it produced great vapor and was so easy to use. I cleaned it everyday and followed the instructions posted by ploom on how to clean it. But now i have a $250 piece of scrap metal. all it does is waste space now. Everything wrong with the pax is the mouthpiece. Disregard the people who say it gets hot they are just using it wrong. Anyway back on topic. The mouthpiece isnt even reading acording to the pax so the LED light stays on and the machine doesnt even heat up. Second, the mouthpiece woulnt close. it just woulnt theres no way to explain it the damn thing just woulnt stay closed. it doesnt lock in place. So once i finally got it to lock in place after holding it down for 10 mins the fucking mouthpiece woulnt come out. by this time im frustrated as shit and i just dont even want it any more. I do NOT recomend this product to anybody! It is a waste of money and space! I'm seriously doing Pax a favor by giving it these ratings. If i could i wouldnt even give it a star. Head my warning this is a waste.

Don't believe the hype Review by cooljames on 1/24/13
Value Quality Ease-of-Use I've seen this referred to as the "Ferrari of Vaporizers". That's about right. You buy something really expensive that's billed and priced as the best in its class, only to find yourself having to spend tons of time and money keeping it tuned to where you justify the cost.
My experience with the Ploom Pax is not good, but I'll start with its qualities. The motion detector on the heat source is a great idea. When you set it down, it goes to sleep like a cell phone and wakes up when you move it around again. Also, the temperature settings are cool, though there are other devices with better controls.
At the very basic level, the design team on this spent tons of time on the aforementioned heater features but didn't spend a lot of time actually using the device. The mouthpiece gets very hot at all temperature settings. Pass it around and it can get too hot to use by the end of the 4th pull. All that metal surrounds a single thin shaft that connects the smokeables to the mouthpiece, and that shaft also houses the spring-loaded on/off switch. This is a very very big design flaw, and it's the one that tanks this device for me. Their literature gives a lot of guidance on the device gunking up after a lot of use. Well heeded advice. However, with that knowledge, putting all the business of the product into the specifically gunky area is a huge oversight.
I don't have better advice on a replacement, but I can say that a $75 cheapo desktop unit off eBay has this one beat. Sorry, Ploom. You seem like cool people, but this just isn't worth the price. -
What a Product Review by JackHerer on 1/22/13
Quality Ease-of-Use Value I know you want to spend half as much on a Puffit or a MFLB, but seriously, this thing is worth it. Save up for the 250 and you will not be dissapointed. Too easy to use, stealthy and with 10 years to back it up, its definitely the vaporizer to choose.

Seriously... the Cadillac of Portables Review by MagicMike on 1/21/13
Quality Ease-of-Use Value I did a lot of research before purchasing a portable vaporizer. I considered the Magic Flite Launch Box as an alternative (costs a lot less), but I am VERY happy about my decision to go for the Pax. I was intrigued by the whole look of the device and attracted to the stealth, convenience and neanderthal simplicity of the device. If you pack in your aromatherapy blend beforehand, the unit is a one-piece affair and can be put in any coat pocket, purse, handbag or anything else for that matter. Vapor quality is very dense if multiple small pulls are taken, and the battery lasts as advertised. One thing I love about this thing is you can vape some of the blend and turn the unit off, saving the rest for later use. I don't use the aromatherapy blends as much as some people do, so it's convenient to use some, use the rest later. Gave the unit only four stars for value simply because the unit, while indeed premium, comes at a premium price tag. That being said, the thing does everything it says easily, beautifully and flawlessly. Also, ten-year warranty is a big plus, that's not something that can be universally said about the vape business.

nice tape but needs much love Review by JEC on 1/17/13
Quality Ease-of-Use Value I have had this for a couple weeks now and did not like it at first. I then decided to put a couple of holes in the screen to increase airflow and it is awesome now (as far as how it hits). You definitely have to clean this sucker a lot for it not to malfunction. I wish the company would give a little more info on how the mouthpiece mechanism works so i can properly clean it. Also i live in a cold climate and notice that the units light flashes blue a few times. Is this to tell me the battery is cold? One last negative for me is that the battery meter does not seem to be that accurate, it flashes red a lot but seems to have lots of charge left.
As far as value, The iPod is $250 and it kicks way more a$$. -
And the winner is. . . Review by Streetweed on 1/15/13
Quality Ease-of-Use Value PAX!
I don't think I've ever reviewed a product, but I will for this wonderful device. Just a few days with it, but I prefer it over the WISPR. And, I really like the WISPR, too, but the noise it makes and screwing around with butane is always a hassle.
Just about the only thing they can add is a USB port and a removable battery.
Take the negative reviews about oddball problems with a grain of salt. No mass produced piece of hardware has a 100% yield.
In short, I agree with the person above about the team behind this winning an award. San Francisco company! -

Cracking Little Unit :) Review by Mark B on 1/12/13
Quality Ease-of-Use Value Overall I am very pleased with my new vaporiser, especially since I'm new to the world of vaporising. The only thing it doesn't rank 5 stars on is value, but at the same time I suppose you have to pay if you want top-quality products. It heats up fast, is extremely portable, and really helps me get the most out of myblend, while also dramatically reducing lung damage which is always going to be a plus. Upon receiving the unit I thought I'd been sent one with a faulty mouthpiece which was originally quite a huge disappointment on a unit I'd paid so much for; it turns out I was wrong, you just need to take care when pushing the mouthpiece in not to push it in with too much force, otherwise it just springs straight back out again. I've only had it a little while but I can really see this unit changing the way I use my blends. Thank you so much! :)

Unit doesn't work Review by Mike on 1/10/13
Quality Ease-of-Use Value So I've had this thing for about a week. When it works, it works great. The problem is, it almost never works. Somehow, the unit doesn't recognize that the mouthpiece is attached and when I turn it on, it just glows purple for a second or two, then turns red (or orange, depending on the temp setting). I emailed Ploom, who was very nice and responded right away. The response was that I needed to clean the unit and a couple of pieces in particular. They are aware that this is an issue.
The cleaning did nothing. So now, I have a 250 dollar vaporizer that doesn't work. I have spent so much time trying to get this to work and cleaning it repeatedly, that I have given up on it. I'm waiting for Ploom to respond, I hope they just give me my money back because right now I am not happy with this thing. -
The best ever!!! Review by King of vape on 1/9/13

Good but needs a slight upgrade Review by Rob E on 1/9/13
Quality Ease-of-Use Value Ordered 12/9/12 and received a few days later. Love the whole concept and ability to put in pocket. I also have the MFLB, Puffit, Iolite Wispr and now the Pax Ploom. In the short 3 weeks I have been able to use it, I love how quick it heats up, is discrete and powerful Vape. I clean it at every oven fill because I read all the reviews about the mouth piece sticking; however my mouth piece is stuck closed like all the reviews stated and I treated the Pax the royality. I Called Vape World today and they said to ship it back. Vape World seems eager to please but Ploom is slow at returning emails and/or calls. Disappointing to own for about 4 weeks and have to do with out now for at least a week or two. Requesting Ploom make some slight modifications please. We pay top dollar for your unit; it should be flawless.
Thanks -
What can I say? Review by Francisco on 1/8/13
Quality Ease-of-Use Value WOW... seriously. I never thought about buying one of these before. I used one for the 1st time a couple weeks ago with a friend of mine, and I had to get one. Quick and easy setup. Only thing that would make it better is if it was USB powered. Only drawback to this beauty is the mouthpiece gets hot but maybe there's a learning curve to dialing it in.
Overall 6/5 stars... Seriously, it's worth the money. -
At last! A portabal that actually works! Review by The Rabbit Man on 1/6/13
Quality Ease-of-Use Value This vaporizer works just like they say it does. I have several portabals that I have bought over the years, and have never been happy with any of them. I got myself one of these for the holiday's. I read the directions. I charged it up. I put something to vaporize in it. It was comparabal to my table top unit on the first try. I used it moderatly for several days on the first charge. Who ever came up with this thing deserves an award. I cannot imagine useing another ever again, and would buy one for a few of my friends if I could afford to, lol. Highly recommended!

An excellent combination of stealth, power, portability, and versatility. Review by b. hunter on 1/2/13
Quality Ease-of-Use Value Pax is an amazing product with a very small learning curve before you know exactly how to operate it, clean it, load it, charge it. It charges in about an hour, lasts about 45+ minutes of solid continuous use (not including times when you have to take a breather of course.) The oven is small yet the power behind the vape is so strong you will be surprised at how much is used. The temperature settings allow for different tolerances of heat for people, and the LED light mechanism showing you it's ready just simplifies the entire pax experience.
Overall, this product is almost like the "apple ipod" of vapes. I would compare its' power to a hot box vaporizer, it's that powerful and effecient. 5/5 all around. -
Don't look any further, you're $249 IS WELL SPENT!!!! Review by Snack Attack on 12/31/12
Quality Ease-of-Use Value First off, the packaging that the Pax ships in is very classy and aesthetically pleasing...otherwise, the instructions couldn't be easier "one click is sick"....the Pax comes shipped with the standard "medium heat setting" but i advise that you take off the mouthpiece and change to the "high heat setting" then work down...you're not going to burn your material unless it's really dry...the material that you use WILL make the Pax smell, it won't go totally unnoticed in your pocket...i advice getting an air-sealed case to carry the Pax in or clean regularly so the smell is less apparent.....AWESOME PRODUCT!!!!

Wow! Review by KK on 12/28/12
Quality Ease-of-Use Value Just got the product for my daughter as an X-mas gift. I am so far very impressed though we haven't had it long at all , so take this review with a grain of salt! That said , I think it is the best , sleekest, most elegant and tasteful design ever in a mobile unit ! So indiscreet, no one knows what it is (so far!) and it is all automatic, which saves all kinds of grief like having to hold in a battery like on other mobile vaporizers!.. Easy to use, and feels so nice in your hand. Be careful not to drop it though, we noticed that could be an area of concern. WE are super excited about this product; I think I will go out and get myself one!!!!! K

Pax Vaporizer Yes or No?!? Review by krazyking on 12/28/12
Quality Ease-of-Use Value O.K. So I am not new to the world of vaporizing my aromatherapy. I currently own the Vapir NO2 and now the Pax by Ploom. First of all let me say I like both machines but for different reasons. My Vapir NO2 is great until it gets dirty. It is able to be brought on the go but it is not very concealable. It hits great and the temperature is easily varied. the screens, tubes, and twist cap are all things I feel prohibit me from loving this machine. The Pax is a great little device. It heats up fast, is easily concealed, and cleans up easy. Not a lot of parts to get gummed up by the "honey" that your blends leave behind. The problem I have is that the mouthpiece doesn't like to lock into place a lot of times and the blend doesn't heat up evenly causing me to do an in session stir. I know it's a new device so the price is a little high for the design. For now I have decided to leave the Vapir NO2 at home and take my Pax on the go, because I love both machines.

Looks great—doesn't work very well Review by Tilegod on 12/26/12
Quality Ease-of-Use Value Mine worked for a few days then got harder and harder to activate. I've had it now for 3-4 months and it just keeps getting worse. Now I've officially given up. It's a slick design but it just doesn't work! Don't be fooled by its appearance. Don't buy it—sure wish I hadn't!
